Cyber bullying on the rise in the US as physical bullying declines
A new U.S. Department of Justice survey finds that the percentage of children who reported being physically bullied over the past year has declined by seven percent from 2003 to 2008.
However, a National Crime Prevention Council study finds that this is probably due to the rise in cyberbullying. The NCPC commissioned survey found that:
- More than 43 percent of teens report being victims of cyberbullying
- Nine in ten teens (92 percent) say they know the person who was bullying them
- Only 10 percent of those cyberbullying victims told their parents.
