Kentucky: new sexting law proposed

Kentucky lawmakers are proposing a new sexting bill. Under the current law a sexting teen is charged with a felony.

Under the new law sexting teens under the age of 18, would have to perform community service and pay a $100 fine. A second offense will be upgraded to a misdemeanor charge.

The proposed law raises some concern that the punishment is too light for those teens who try to profit from sexting, by making videos with sexual content and trying to make money from them.

Kentucky now joins a list of 10 other states, including Ohio and Indiana, trying to figure out the best legislation to discourage sexting. House Bill 143 passed the House Judiciary Committee and is about to go the full House for a vote.
